6-HOUR ADVANCED MEDIATION TRAINING
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
This one-day program adds further depth and new perspectives on conflict resolution approaches introduced in initial family mediation training. The information and skills are applicable to mediation as well as the variety of professional roles involved in these difficult cases:
- Collaborative law professionals
- Attorneys
- Mental health professionals
- Financial advisers
- Clergy
- Judges
- GALs
- Child's reps
- Parenting coordinators

- Family court administrators
Topics in the program include:
Assessing asymmetrical interactions and power dynamics
Differentiating between typologies of intimate partner violence
Roles and impacts of psychological, drug and alcohol impediments in mediation and negotiation processes
Refinements to screening and process design when deciding whether, and how, to proceed
Implications for parenting plans
Overlap and disparity between the variety of professional standards operating in these settings
CONTINUING EDUCATION
- Approved for 6 hours of continuing education for Advanced Practitioner Family Mediators by the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR)
- 6 hours Illinois attorney MCLE (including 6 hours Professional Responsibility) and 6 hours Illinois Social Worker CEU's will be requested
FACULTY
Sue Bronson, LCSW, is a pioneering mediator, trainer, and psychotherapist in private practice in Milwaukee. With more than 30 years of mediation experience, she teaches mediation at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee School of Continuing Education, conducts mediation workshops throughout the country, and is a guest at St Louis Law School in Missouri.
Lynn A. Gaffigan, JD, is a recognized teacher and trainer of mediation and conflict resolution skills and an experienced mediator in private practice for more than 20 years. She is an Academy of Family Mediators Advanced Practitioner member of the Association for Conflict Resolution, and was lead faculty for DePaul University's Family and Divorce Mediation Certificate Program in Continuing Professional Education for more than 12 years.
